The Team

Leadership

The present Leadership of HMI is comprised of gifted Evangelical Christians, including two attorneys, two CPAs and a retired bishop of the Hungarian Reformed Church.

But first, we would like to honor the departed ones who are with the Lord now.

Harold Barrington  (First) Chairman of the Board

(He was also Board Member of the Protestant Media Foundation)

HAROLD BARRINGTON has served on the board of Hungarian Ministries International since it’s founding, and as its chairman for several of those years. He has served as pastor of two non-denominational Arizona churches before becoming a pastor-at-large to the resort and retirement communities in Mesa. He was also the dean and a lecturer at the Center for Biblical Training during the 70’s and 80’s.

The ministry was a “second career” for him. Prior to 1976 he was in the business world as an executive with a large nation-wide firm. His heavy involvement with ministry as a layman finally led to his resignation to give all his time to pastoral ministry and Bible teaching, at home and abroad. Experience in the workaday world has given a practical relevance to his pulpit preaching. He has spent time in ten of the past summers in Eastern Europe, before and after the Iron Curtain, at the invitation of Hungarian churches in Hungary and Romania.

He was born in Toronto, Canada, and raised in a Christian home. In 1952, with his wife and baby daughter, he moved to California, and became a citizen of the U.S. in 1957, and of Mesa, Arizona in 1974.

Dr. Larry Ward  Board Member

(He was also Cofounder of Protestant Media Foundation)

DR. LARRY WARD  the cofounder of Protestant Media Foundation and one of the directors of Hungarian Ministries International – has served Christ through various means over the years. He was managing editor for Christian Life and Christianity Today magazines in the formative years for those publications. He was for eight years executive secretary of the Evangelical Press Association and director of its E.P. News Service. As Director of International Services and later Vice President/Overseas Director for World Vision he helped build what is today the largest Christian relief organization. In 1970 he started the work of Food for the Hungry International to focus his own ministry on the needs of the poorest of the poor, the hungry, hurting and homeless people of our world.

He has been recognized the world over for his great achievements and compassionate heart. In 1984 President Ronald Reagan named Larry Ambassador to a Hungry World. In 1986 he received the Presidential End Hunger Award from the U.S. Agency for International Development. In 1979 His Royal Highness Prince Peter of Greece and Denmark bestowed upon Larry the Order of Merit on behalf of the Ancient and Royal Order of St. John. He received several honorary doctorate and honorable Keys to the Cities from around the world, from Florida to Japan. In 1998 the 27 million members National Association of Evangelicals named Larry the recipient of its most prestigious award, the J. Elwyn Wright Award, “for outstanding service in the cause of evangelical cooperation.” (Dr. Larry Ward memorial page)

Larry was a graduate of the Wheaton College and after completing much of his ministry, in 1985 earned both an M.A. in International Studies and a Ph.D. in International Administration from Columbia Pacific University.

James L. Edward  (Second) Chairman of the Board

(He was also Board Member of the Protestant Media Foundation)

I recall with gratitude JAMES EDWARD's participation in the activity of Hungarian Ministries International – his devotion, his professional help and his leadership.  He was a board member of this organization for ten years and for seven years he served as the Chairman of the board. Jim visited Hungary many times, helped many of our projects on the site and played an important role in the establishment and activity of the Protestant Media Foundation.

Jim received his education from the University of Arizona and earned his engineering degree in the Military. After more than twenty years of service he retired as Lt. Col. from the USAF and was a commercial pilot with Southwest Airlines.

On a more personal level, allow me to reveal what my friendship with Jim meant to me. It started, when once his Sunday-school class invited me to give a report on the Concordance project. After I finished my report they did not let me come down from the pulpit but pulled away the curtain behind me and there was a table with a computer system set on it. This was their gift, with which I was able to continue the editing work of the Concordance. In the following years, Jim provided me with the most updated computers and operating systems and taught me how to maintain these modern marvels. During those countless hours, I recognized what a selfless and generous man Jim was. He gave of himself above and beyond expectations, demonstrating Christ's love not only in word but also in deed. His character revealed a man who could be trusted as a true friend, one who could share in the ups and downs of personal life, the joys and the sorrows, successes and failures. He always gave godly counsel and support and proved his steadfastness and authentic faith. Friendships of this depth are rare. I cherish the friendship God granted me in Jim and I will miss him greatly.
