Who we are

Hungarian Ministries International (HMI) was founded in 1990 by a small group of believers who had a vision to serve Hungarian-speaking peoples through literature, radio, TV, and Bible education, taking advantage of the new freedom that followed the crumbling of the communist regime.  HMI’s current mission is to evangelize a nation using the media of television, radio, video and audio tapes, and the Internet while continuing the development and distribution of published works to aid in gaining a deeper understanding of God’s Word and promoting Christian maturity.  HMI is a nonprofit corporation registered in Arizona.  The founder and president of HMI, Joseph Baranyi, was a missionary with Trans World Radio for twenty years, preaching the Word of God daily to his native people via radio.  HMI’s Board of Directors includes committed conservative evangelicals from throughout the United States.  In 1991, HMI established a Hungarian subsidiary, Veritas (Truth), to facilitate operations within Hungary itself, and in 1996 founded Protestant Media Foundation (PROMED), working together with the different Protestant Churches in Hungary in the use of the electronic media. In 2016 HMI established The Budapest Institute for Contemporary Christianity.
